When it comes to your plumbing, there's one task that you might not think about very often, and that's drain cleaning. If you're like most people, drain cleaning is pretty far down the list of home maintenance projects. Unfortunately, drain cleaning should actually be at the top of your list, especially under certain conditions. Look at the list provided below. If you're dealing with any of those situations, you need to have your drains cleaned as soon as possible.
You Just Bought a Pre-Existing Home
If you've recently purchased a pre-existing home, you need to have the drains cleaned. The last thing you want is to be living with another family's dirty drains. After all, those drains contain hair, grease, and even human waste. Not to mention all the decaying food products that might be coating the inside of those drains. To get rid of all those things, contact a plumber and have your drains cleaned. Not only will you get rid of those substances, but you'll also reduce your risk of stubborn clogs.
You Found Dirt in Your Sink
If you've got mature trees in your yard, the chances are good that some of the roots have invaded your drain pipes. Unfortunately, roots in your drains can be a real problem. If you've been dealing with issues involving clogged drains, and you've been pulling up some dirt in the drains when you use your plunger, you're probably dealing with some serious root issues. It's time to have your drains cleaned. Your plumber will be able to get rid of all the roots. They'll also be able to do a digital inspection of your drains to check for root damage.
You Could Have Rodents in Your Drains
This may seem disgusting, but it is possible for rodents to get into your drains. One way is by climbing through the vents that you have on your roof. Another way is through the sewer lines. This is particularly easy for them, especially if you have cracks in any of your drain pipes. If you've seen rodent activity around your home, especially on the roof, you need to have your drains cleaned. It's also important that you watch your toilets. Once rodents access your drain pipes, they can swim upstream to your toilets.
You're Tired of the Drain Odors
If drain odors used to be a minor inconvenience, but now they're downright unbearable, it's time to have the plumbers come out for a drain cleaning. There are a variety of reasons why your drains may stink, but the biggest culprit is grime and decaying food. Having your drains cleaned will remove the source of the odors so that you can breathe easier.Share

My homes have always had either copper or PVC plumbing pipes. But when my plumbing system needed an overhaul last spring, I wanted a piping system for my home that I could work on myself when needed. There were a lot of good reasons to choose PEX piping, but my favorite thing about the PEX piping is that it's easy to work with, even if you're a beginner like me. Now I can make small repairs myself instead of calling the plumber every time I have a minor leak or other small problem. I still call the plumber for the big stuff, but it's more affordable now that I can take care of small issues myself. I started this blog to help others learn how they, too, can do DIY plumbing repairs at home.
