Answers To Make Caring For Your Septic Tank Easier

The septic tank can be a major part of your home due to its role in breaking down the wastewater that your home is producing. While a septic tank system is designed so that it will have the smallest maintenance needs possible, there are still some types of work that you will need to do, and understanding these systems can make it much easier for you to manage.

Will It Be Difficult To Determine If The Septic Tank Is Clogged?

A clogged septic tank can be a significant problem, but it is generally a problem that a homeowner will be able to recognize fairly quickly. This is due to the fact that these clogged lines can make it much harder for the septic tank to drain, which can cause the drains in the home to move more slowly or to even start backing up. These issues can start out fairly subtle at first, but if you notice that multiple drains in your home are moving more slowly, you may want to have the septic tank or drainfield inspected to eliminate the risk of a major clog being the culprit.

Do You Only Need To Worry About Pumping Plastic Or Other Inorganic Material From The Tank?

In order to function, the septic tank system will break down the solid waste that enters it. However, homeowners may assume that they will only need to pump the septic tank to remove any non-organic materials that may not be broken down in the septic tank. In reality, it can be possible for the septic tank to also fill with organic materials that may not have broken down. A common example of this occurring can arise when a piece of heavy waste sinks to the bottom of the septic tank very quickly, which can lead to it being covered under other types of waste. This can stop the waste from breaking down as the bacteria in the tank may not be able to reach it.

How Long Does A Septic Tank Pumping Service Take?

While pumping a septic tank can be a major undertaking, it is a project that is likely to only need a couple of hours or less. This is particularly true when your septic tank is in an area that can be easily located and that will allow utility trucks from a septic service provider to reach the tank. During the course of the septic tank being pumped, you will be told to avoid using the water in the home, and this should be followed as closely as possible.

A New Kind of Piping Makes DIY Plumbing Easier

My homes have always had either copper or PVC plumbing pipes. But when my plumbing system needed an overhaul last spring, I wanted a piping system for my home that I could work on myself when needed. There were a lot of good reasons to choose PEX piping, but my favorite thing about the PEX piping is that it's easy to work with, even if you're a beginner like me. Now I can make small repairs myself instead of calling the plumber every time I have a minor leak or other small problem. I still call the plumber for the big stuff, but it's more affordable now that I can take care of small issues myself. I started this blog to help others learn how they, too, can do DIY plumbing repairs at home.
